Who says you don’t already?

Well, anyone can say it, until proven otherwise. Heck I’ll say it; there are no LGBTQ Avengers in the main team. Now please, please, please prove me wrong. Multiple times over. I appreciate good intentions, but visibility is what matters.

This. It’s good that Marvel has been more inclusive this year and in the coming new year, especially with female characters, but it’s really not enough. I know they care about being inclusive, but they’re doing it at a snail’s pace, which is only slightly faster than DC at the moment. But if they want to make real progress, then they need to have LGBTQ members on the main Avengers team. They don’t even need to make a new character. Even if an already openly cay character like Northstar was made a actual Avenger, and I do mean a full-fledged Avenger, like, he goes out on just about every mission with the rest of them and not just one or two to make it seem like he’s a contributing member, then that would be a wonderful step forward, and I would hope that they wouldn’t just stop at Northstar. It’s not enough to just have one LGBTQ character. Like wheelr said above, “I appreciate good intentions, but visibility is what matters.”

Also, visibility means visibility, not just “well, he’s gay, but we never, ever reference it because it’s enough for him to be privately gay!”

Straight/cis characters demonstrate and prove their “straight-ness” over and over again without caveats, by flirting, referencing old relationships, getting into new relationships, dating, referencing their genders, having sexual encounters, etc., etc. — what’s important is that GSM characters get as much reference to their queer lives as non-queer characters do, and what’s even more important is that it’s not a joke when you do give them the same attention.
